Welcome to Dovedale's class page!
Our class is named after the picturesque valley of Dovedale in Derbyshire. In the Peak District, Dovedale is famous for its stepping stones and its impressive limestone ravines. The River Dove flows through Milldale, Wolscote Dale and Beresford Dale and is between 2 to 3 miles long! From Dovedale, you can look onto the top of Thorpe Cloud, which is an isolated limestone hill sitting between the villages of Ilam and Thorpe, right on the border of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Thorpe Cloud’s highest point is 287 metres tall and a lot of people like to climb to the top of it to see the amazing views of the Peak District. We will be discovering more about our class name throughout the year and completing some artwork based on its landscape.
We are taught by Miss Cooper.
We have had a fantastic start to our year, I am so impressed with the children's enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. Our first topic was based on the film 'Inside Out'. We had great fun learning about our emotions, and understanding that we can feel lots of different emotions at the same time.
In maths, we have began the year by delving into place value. We have been using concrete apparatus to understand the value of each digit, which is determined by the place it has in the number. We have looked at the effect of adding 1, 10 and 100 to a number and the children have explained to each other why a pattern occurs.
In English, we have just begun our work on playscripts. Come back soon to find out more!
We are very excited to welcome 'Junior Jam' to the school. On a Wednesday, we are taught computing, music and PE by specialist teachers. This term, the children will be learning how to code their own game in computing. In music, their topic is centered around percussion instruments. Our focus in PE is on fitness.
Our PE lessons are on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please come into school in FULL PE kit on Wednesday & wear normal uniform plus trainers on a Thursday.
Please ensure all uniform, water bottles and bags are named.
